So, played golf yesterday for a chairity tournament for the Salvation Army at a pretty nice club here in Fresno. I was seven over par...yeah I suck. I haven't played a serious game since 2005. Sue me.

Anyway, the other two men and one women I was placed with on a team were a real bunch of prize horses' asses. Since it was golf, and I have decorum when it comes to many aspects of life. I shut my mouth and just listened to the banter of my teammates. I did converse here and there, but it was a minimum. The course was beautiful and to my teams' credit we caddied ourselves and walked the whole course without golfcarts....

The Team

Gmartinfan: Aging Gen X-er who smiled pleasantly enough and focused on the game.

Angela: twenty-something, very pretty natural blonde, crystal blue eyes and and HR executive at the local hospital

Mike: Good looking twenty-something who kept making sexual inuemdos to Angela. Ughhhh she giggled at each one. He works at a bank and golfs regularly.

Andrew: Smarmy twenty-something who also flirted openly with Angela, has a kid with his x-gf and works as a upper level manager at Sunmaid Raisins (a huge employer in the Fresno area)

Andrew and Mike being the same age, and ilk.......hit it off immediately, the banter about clubs, cool bars, new cars (mostly German), and a casual smugness oozed off them. Their natural good looks, their natural wit and humor. They both liked to "neg" me when I sliced or bombed out into the deep rough. I was a better golfer than Angela, but they never commented on her game.

When Angela was teeing off on just about every hole, they would watch, and just make lewd comments about imagining what it would be like to "f*ck" her.

Andrew bombed badly on one hole (6th) and and he threw a FIT. I mean, very un-golf like........unprofessional. I imagined him to be a grown man who was a kid actually who threw tantrums when he didn't get his way. When this was happening, Angela said to me "He's under soo much stress from work..."

I smirked and rolled my eyes. Yeah sure I thought...you barely know this guy, and you "know" him already in this fashion. Just beautiful. If he was butt-ugly or strange she would've trashed him. Being hot ALWAYS gets you a pass.

On the 11th hole, all three of them decided it was time to trash the older generation with small talk. All three of them caustically laughed about "latchkeys" and our camera-shyness compared to thier age group. Arguing with them or pointing out things to them just would've made them defensive or reinforced their already knave perceptions. Besides, it was golf.

We all shook hands after the game and enjoyed a nice dinner on the pavilion after the game. Andrew and Mike got drunk and they both were almost "feeding" alcohol to Angela. When I left on my scooter they were all making plans to go out later.......

I wonder when A started.

but yeah, sounds fairly typical to me.
I play a computer game, and every single game there's at least one person like that. you'd guess them to be about 10 by their emotional maturity, but chances are, they're mostly adults. utter contempt for anyone they deem less skilled than they are, which is usually decided arbitrarily based on the outcomes of a situation, when the outcome is generally out of your personal control to a large extent. everything is someone elses fault, only they know how to play, and if you don't play as they want you to, they'll take a tantrum. obsessed with winning, winning is the only pleasure they can derive from it. anything less is a net negative experience.

sad thing is, they're the people who are popular, the ones who get let off with excuses for their behaviour. they didn't spontaneously appear one day, they were manufactured and grown within an environment that enabled them to. this messed up society of today.

Aaahhh to be young and think you know it all, you were right not to retort, they probably would have regressed to even more childish behavior, old age and treachery will always prevail over youth and enthusiasm.

"Latchkeys"? What is that supposed to mean? I looked it up at urbandictionary.com, and yep, it means the same as it's always meant:

WTF, how does that apply to you?

With respect to camera shyness... that's just good sense. Once your pics / videos are out there on the Internet, they're out of your control.

gmartinfan, you could have easily blew those two men out of the water.
Young women have a natural preference for older men, so you were already at an advantage.

If the two guys were acting childish, you should have called them out on it.
You could have said something like, "So, when do you two guys graduate high school?"

The girl probably would have laughed at that joke.

Being born late into my family makes me raised by Baby Boomers, my brother is Generation X, and I'm XY to be honest. 1981.

Although I am 31, I relate very little to people my age. I make good friends with anyone and everyone +/- 10 years.

As for this golf game, it's no different at any other social event with people that assume I live as they do. In their defense, they have no means of being different, acting as they do gets them where they are and doing the things they do. Childish, perhaps, but their actions, mannerisms, and attitudes are the result of a more aggressive personality. Rather than giving up having not found what makes them accepted, they went through some stage in their life (middle school I think) where they adopted prevailing attitudes and mannerisms that worked. As for me, I grew up more like my parents and focusing on what they saw as successful. Sadly, what worked generations ago does not apply at all anymore.

Really? I remember reading it when I was 16, because I'd heard so much about it. Bored me silly, bar the illustrations.

Less than Zero does a much better job of portraying that late 80's mindset. It changed my outlook on life, making me realise that not everyone evolves as they grow older.

probably both. The second she started laughing at their sort-of-dirty/racist jokes, and when she "giggled" at the inuendos on the golf course I knew that she wasn't the type of wman I wanted to date.
