Does it surprise you that my lights died on my car once, and I attached a blue 1W laser to the front so I could get home?
Took off the focus lens so it wouldn't burn people though. I'm considerate like that

I've got one of these, too

sounds epic. he'd be trying to chase it and everything

but on a more serious note, far too dangerous. These things melt skin, they tear apart your retina a lot quicker than that

In an alternate-alternate universe/bad fanfiction crossover, I imagine Fonduman and Ethnocide having a laser showdown.

Fonduman with lasers he made, Ethnocide with lasers that come out of his eyes.

1W eh? I bet that would easily boil the fluid in your eye if you looked directly at it. :P

(5mW is the figure I have in my head for max safe power as regards the eye, too lazy to look it up though)

something along the lines of 50mW would probably not cause any damage if you were to glance at it. 5mW is the benchmark for staring into it lol.
1W probably would cause that to happen if you stared at it for a while. The biggest threat with laser light is the spatial coherence, though. All those waves with a small range of k-vectors. Means they all focus to a very tight point, whereas normal light will focus to a broad image on the retina. Hence even fairly weak laser light can burn holes in your retina in under a second.

this is my 150mW laser burning a wallet lol

Where did you actually manage to get a 1W laser btw?
