Who, me? Thanks, I guess. You're one of the few people who actually comments on my status updates, no matter how silly they are. :)

I think you just might be right about this, gmartinfan. It seems that all I see on my FB wall nowadays are so-called "friends" (many of whom are much younger than me) entering into relationships, getting engaged, getting married, and basically living a life I can only dream about. Three years ago I thought it would be a great way to meet people since I was starting a new chapter in my life in a new city. But FB lately has just been making me feel increasingly alienated - the exact opposite of its intended purpose. It's only really good for happy, socially & sexually active people. For a LS guy, it is truly toxic.

This. It's just poisonous for an LS person. It really is. It's just an extension of already-popular people's social lives, but online. They boast about their wonderful lives, friends, relationships, etc. It doesn't help you meet new people. Rarely does anyone post on my wall, except for a small cabal of people (most of them met through this site). It really irks when I see a friend, or a oneitis, suddenly 'in a relationship' on their Facebook status. It's an avenue closed off to me, a life I can only dream about, too.

It's like a personal PR page. Where people only boast about things in their empty, vacuous lives. Ironically, I've never felt more left out since posting on there.

Click on the bothersome persons name on your wall. A drop down box appears. Select Hide.

If I hid all the "bothersome" persons, then I would have to "hide" everybody I know.

Should be called Wastebook. I've never been on it and never will.

Ditto for Twitter, MySpace, and whatever the next sheeple site that emerges.

You know how you can put people into categories such as Work, School. I have a Buffer Body category that most people are in.

This. I'd have to block almost everyone on my friends list.

I'm finding that Facebook is delivering blank pages for some of the groups I belong to. So if I look for an event and click on it, the page is blank. The software basic functionality is not reliable.

You can't control how your own Facebook page looks, and they keep changing it, so even when you have fixed things up reasonably well, you look a few weeks later and everything is scrambled around.

You can post written comments (big deal!), photos, and videos, but you can't include documents in PDF format, or most other standard formats either. The system is very limited from a user perspective.

You never have confidence in Facebook security, even when you work hard at adjusting all the privacy settings, it is never clear what exactly is public or private. It is difficult to test the privacy settings for all possibilities.

So now they have done their IPO and the company is theoretically worth $billions, but they can't get the software to work right. They have no product other than providing web pages on demand. How much is that worth anyway?

It's a tool, like anything else technology brings.........not against FB per say, but wasn't "working" for me. Still scratching my head over the IPO, and the billions of dollars...........

it's a glorified email site, and to ME a bit overvalued. Remember when Yahoo was trading at $500? $600 bux a share back in the late 1990's? It was "foolproof" according to all the "experts" and it was trading at this price when it had not even turned a single penny in profit. How does FB make its money??????

sigh. Advertising, just like any other dot.com site.......how is this innovative?
