Brand recognition and childhood nostalgia, I'd guess. Always been partial to the Blue One myself.

Now we're talking. Sonic was so much better. And you know why? Because Sega didn't put him in every single game they could think of. Also, you could attempt to complete the level in under a minute and get bonuses. Sonic really lived up to his name. That's what gets me about the ad for sonic and mario at the olympics; they both finish at the same time when in reality Sonic would be across the finish line before Mario had heard the gunshot.

A man after my own heart!

I was a Sonic man too, back in the early nineties. The gameplay is a lot more speedy and frenetic than Mario. I only really like the original 2D platformers in the series though. Wasn't a big fan of the move to 3D.

I was a Sega guy back in the heat of the Sega vs Nintendo war in the early 1990s. I defected to Sony at around the time the Playstation came out.

Sega really went on stupidity streak after the Sonic Adventure Series (Sega went 3rd party), but with the release of Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations I can honestly say that Sega is finally giving love that use to give to sonic 10 years ago! My favorite video game of all time is still Sonic 3 & Knuckles:

Also on a completely different note, Adam have you played MGS 2 and 3?

Not yet. I really ought to. Probably should have played em before starting 4.

The original Sonic games (1,2,3, Knuckles, CD) are among my faves of all time. I don't really like what they did with the franchise after that. I must admit, Sonic Generations looks like my cup of tea, though! :)

I just bought Sonic CD (SEGA CD) on Steam. That was and still is my favorite sonic game. Although I cannot go without saying that Sonic 3 would be a very close second. Something about those levels, the music, the atmosphere, it was just perfect. Marble garden was the best level ever. I have no idea why I loved it so much...well that one and the carnival was the shit. There was a time when I knew every short cut, jump, ballon, bubble, and cannon.

I'm thinking about Sonic 4. I miss the old days of playing sonic on the Game Gear.

My roommate in college likes all the 3D sonics. I'm not into all of that. I think Sonic should stick to side scrolling, but that's just my opinion.

I don't much like the 3D Sonics. Call me old fashioned. I had a friend that did like 'em. Me? I prefer the original 2D games. Sonic 1, 2, 3, Knuckles, CD? Perfection, in game form :)

Sadly, my Sega has packed up shop many years ago. I may buy another one on Ebay. I love my retro gaming! :D

I have a PS1, a PS2, a PS3, a gaming PC, a Mac laptop (which I use to post on this forum most of the time), a broken Sega Master System II which I need to replace. I entered a comp to win an XBox 360 too, but didn't win.

Video game franchises.. hmm.

Dawn of War
Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale/Planescape Torment
A couple of the Final Fantasies
Xwing Vs. Tie Fighter (Xwing Alliance, Tie Fighter)
Tribes 2? (I never tried Tribes admittedly)
The Witcher
Company of Heroes

As for the FPS games discussion. Interestingly, at least for me, I think my opinion has evolved. Back then I was fairly into Battlefield 1942/Battlefield 2, Tribes 2, Planetside, and other ones offline. But nowadays, I just don't care as much for FPS games. I think it's because back then I was into the skill of it, the twitchiness. I guess as I get older, it's less about raw reactions (as they've probably declined), and more about the layers of it. It's nice to play something that's a bit more cerebral. It's hard to just lay that down black and white, but that's the gist of it. I've still tried Rage, and Space Marine. I've got BF3, STALKER, but not installed it yet. Meanwhile, I seem to prefer stuff like MMOs, Skyrim, Witcher, Vampire the Masquerade, Dragon Age, and so on. Stuff that has a sort of persistence and longevity to your actions and decisions. In truth it's always been a mix of FPS and RPG or RTS throughout all the years, but I suppose the weighting has shifted slightly in favour of RPG/RTS. I suspect this is more and more to do with my escapism.

ADOM II is already in early playable state, so I guess ADOM is now officially a franchise.
