I was in one this morning (2 am). It's my 11th one so far (never been behind the wheel for any). This one left me with the worst injuries so far. Doc says I should rest but I went to class anyway and plan on going to work.

So basically have you ever been in one and what was it like for you?

Oh and I'll share what happened when I get home.

No accidents so far for me. But I've only been driving for about a year so it could still happen. I hope it won't, but almost everyone gets into some kind of traffic accident, big or small, at some point in their lives.

Yeah, back in the 1980's.

Muther-frakker pulls right out in front of me on the freeway from an onramp coming from an airport,
when I had the right of way, since I was travelling on the freeway, not him.

Technically, I was found at fault since my car rear-ended this muther-humpers car, so I was blamed for it since the asshole lied to the cops about being on the freeway, and no witnesses. No one got hurt, but my car's front end was heavily damaged.

He didn't even _have_ a car to drive, a couple of years later, but I won't go into details.

You shouldn't go back to work too soon Deejay, take care of yourself.

I had a car accident, a small one, nothing big but it was shocking nonetheless.

I've seen drivers with 3 million miles under their belts get into crashes.

If you drive a lot, sooner or later it will happen, no matter how good you are at driving.

Too many dingbats out there who dont know how to drive safely at all. :check:

when I was 11. Had a lap-belt on, but nothing over my chest. So I had very bad abdominal bruising (turned multicoloured lol) and a cut along my head that required 22 stitches. Still have the scar, although it's faded a lot since then. Made a fair bit of insurance money out of it though :coolbeans:

Yes the day I was supposed to be born, my parents were on the way to hospital and an asshole at an intersection turned left in front of us, pushed the engine between my mom and dad, maybe thats why I'm so fucked up, was supposed to be born that day but my mom was in shock and I wasn't born until late the following day.

BTW I wish it would have been fatal then I would have been spared this shit life.

I wish you a speedy recovery!

Not really. It was raining and I was going about 67mph on the highway when I hit a large pool of water. My car sank a little, then started to spin around. It spun around maybe 5 or 6 times (impossible to count when in the situation like that even if you're a number freak) and I careened off the road and landed in a bunch of mud and weeds. My car was caked all over. Needless to say no one stopped, but I was with my brother, and I recall feeling thrilled rather than fear. He seconded me.

Kind of sounds like fun as long as the vehicle didn't get wreaked. :coolbeans:

Mkay I'm back.

Boss wouldn't let me come in for work since he found out so I just slept the majority of the day.

Here's what happened:

Just finished a gig for the night and was riding with my friends back home. I was in the passenger seat and my close friend was sitting in the back. Her friend was the driver. It was late at night and it was raining like crazy. I started to drift off to sleep as we travelled along a long stretch of highway. Everything seemed fine and we were all in great spirits after a good night of just celebrating music. Everything was smooth sailing until the 18 wheeler came into view. I sat up in my seat and started paying attention, I can't help but assist when I'm in the passenger seat (assist, not backseat drive). It's saved my ass more times than I can count. The road seemed to be pretty clear so I suggested hopping on the lane over, we do so and the truck follows. No big deal.

We couldn't really change lanes yet (too many cars speeding by/not giving us a chance). So we played it safe and slowed down a bit, got some more breathing room between us and the truck (we went from 1 1/2 car lengths back to about 3). We continue on our little journey and begin relaxing a bit when I hear a loud "bang". I look up ahead and one of the tires on the truck exploded (I've seen this happen before but never this close). I couldn't see anything but smoke and then it felt like our car climbed a curb and got stuck, half of the tire got lodged underneath our car, we lost control and slammed into the guard rail.

Something cut my head pretty bad because I was bleeding like crazy. I ended up traumatizing my best friend sitting in the back (the driver and I got knocked out on impact) because it looked like I died and she couldn't check my pulse. The truck driver somehow managed to keep control and pulled over a few kilometres ahead. He actually came back to check on us, I'll never forget his face when he went from relieved to pale as a ghost when he looked at my friends then looked at me. Anyway when the EMT arrived I finally realized what I was wiping off my forehead was blood instead of sweat (Dress shirt was ruined), went into shock. Next thing I remember was getting stitches in ER.

Still haven't told my close friends or my immediate family about this.

Man that is some bad luck. Being close to large trucks is a bad idea, but you can't always do that, of course.

Its not often that a truck tire blows and comes completely off a one-piece wheel, but it does happen, once
in a while.

Back in the old days, trucks (and other vehicles) used to use split-rim wheels instead of a solid ones, so the driver
could change out a tire easier, but they were very dangerous to other car drivers since the locking ring was made
of steel, not rubber and they were outlawed in the early 1980's on heavy trucks in the US.

How are you and the others doing now, Deejay?

That sounds serious as any sort of head injury is cause for alarm. I'm really glad you're alright. I hope there are no long term effects.

I've been in a car accident where a stoplight was ran and we smashed straight into another vehicle in a van. The vehicles were both severely damaged, but the only known injury was my arm flew out really fast and slammed into something on the dashboard, gashing my palm.

The one thing I'll never forget is the 'car accident feeling.' It's like slow motion, and terrifying when you realize you can't stop it. The feeling is really hard to describe, but like this incredibly physical, gut wrenching horror. Afterwards, I felt like nearly puking. Shock too, like you say. Even if you don't get seriously injured, you get psychologically sick if it's a rough one and I couldn't imagine how bad it would be if it was serious injury too.

I never could drive myself, as I have a lot of anxieties and phobias, but I think that accident might have been what finally made me not want to drive for the rest of my life.
