U2, Zooropa. August 1993.

Recorded during and in-between the massive 1992-1993 tours for "Achtung Baby" focusing on more on their relationship and the times in Europe. It was considered more of a 'euro-pop-techno' than nitty-gritty rock and roll.

The cover art of that pointless face trapped in between a "new european" union. The dawn of the Internet on a mass consumer level, and the creeping info-travel of satellite television. The world moving faster, and faster.

The chart hits of "babyface" and "stay (so close)" Songs like "lemon" which poised on the neo-psychedelia-acid house. Songs like "Numb" and we all U2 a huge debt of gratitude for re-introducing Mr. Johnny Cash to a then younger Generation X (the wanderer).

It reflected the colligiate spirit of the times. It was a smoother production with the help of studio masterminds Brian Eno and Flood. Fashion, style, pop-art that the nineties was still trying to define started to gel with the release of this classic album.

It was in those times as "their" Srgt Pepper. The progression from "Joshua Tree" to "Achtung baby" to this release....a massive period of growth, intricate song-styles and spoken word. A nod to the past, and a nod to the future of europe, a haunting but meloncholic warning.........before this release people were wondering still if the nineties could ammount to "anything" and this album proved that.

I don't care if I get trolled for this, but I think a rush of blood to the head is the best album in my lifetime.
Please note that I'm 20 years old.

As to why I call it a great album? Because it's a work of art, rather than a desperate attempt for commercial success, while simultaneously not being too obscure for my taste. Everything Coldplay did after this album seems to be commercial oriented. Their newer stuff is VERY over produced and layered. I really wish they would go back to the sound they had on A Rush of Blood to the head because it was pretty much flawless. Sorry Chris Martin, but just because you can afford an array of synthesizers, a 60 piece orchestra, and all kinds of other instruments at the same time going on doesn't mean you should. Go back to your acoustic guitar and acoustic piano and write us some REAL songs.

Seriously, there wasn't a single bad song on A Rush of blood to the head. The songs range from pretty darn good to exceptionally great.

I agree that A Rush of Blood To The Head is Coldplay's best album. Top notch songwriting, before all the fame got to Chris Martin's head. I also rather like the debut, Parachutes. I am not as big a fan of their more recent offerings, a bit too mainstream and over produced. 'Speed of Sound' is like a direct copy of 'Clocks', no doubt on purpose (for commercial effect).

I preferred them back in the days of the first two albums, when they weren't quite as overexposed.

Yellow is a beautiful song. Coldplays first album is also very good. Not quite as consistent as the second one IMO, but man some great songs came off their first album. Shiver, Yellow, Don't Panic and Everything's not Lost are all great songs.
