Having no one but my sister to play with, I've decided to try playing online at http://www.chess.com

Anyone fancy having a game sometime?

I know how to play, but have no skill whatsoever. I've even tried to read up on the subject to no avail. I've always been challenged by anything non-verbal.

When I was a little kid I was really good at chess. I even went to the state championships a couple of times. I was pretty much able to destroy anyone around me starting at age nine. Unfortunately, I grew up during that awkward phase where everyone had a computer (more or less) but no one had the Internet (more or less). The only computer chess game I had was insanely hard, and I didn’t have access to an Internet full of people at a similar skill level, so I kind of got bored with the notion of playing chess when the local club folded. I kinda wish that I had someone similar to practice with during that time. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt the satisfaction of intellectually destroying an inferior opponent.

I always enjoyed it, was never any good at it though. I remember once hearing the "take the center of the board quickly" strategy when I was like 12 or something and that's about all I remember. When the power is out, or the internet is down, or I'm excruciatingly bored I'll play chess against the comp on my macbook. I always get my ass kicked though.

I voted 'I know how the pieces move." cause...well I do.
I had a pretty decent travel set for study hall in High School, because unless you were studying or reading, the only other thing allowed by the moderators was chess. I was part of the Chess Club by proxy, as I would stop in while waiting for track practice to start and play a game. Never was great at it but I had my share of wins. Now, I know how the pieces move and any innate tactics hahaha.

'Chapayeff' is the FUN spin-off of this game.
You know, where you hit pieces with your finger knuckles to send them and knock over opponent's pieces? So much more FUN than original version! :)
