Saw this a few days ago. I liked it. Good action and good characters (especially Iron Man). I was never really a big fan of Avengers in comic books (I liked the mutant books better) but this is really one of the best comic book movies. Faithful to the spirit of the comics.

Well the movie is setting all sorts of records, already about 660 million $ in the box office. Nice!

Woo hoo! JW FINALLY has some financial success to back up his brilliance. Now, perhaps they won't cancel his next show like they have the past three times.

This. Finally reached the States this weekend and I got to see it... it really did live up to the hype.

I only hope that finally, at long last, after a blockbuster of this magnitude... JW will finally have enough clout to get another Serenity movie under way.

I was confused by dr banner being played by... whoever the hell that was, but whatever. Good movie, served it's purpose. Wouldn't buy it though. Since I don't follow the "news" on movies I didn't know he wasn't in it. Funny as hell as far as superhero movies go.

Amen to that. Firefly was a kick-ass series and Serenity was just as good.

This.

I'm actually more excited about this than about the movie itself :D It means Joss is finally getting some financial success. More Serenity movies, Joss, please?

I finally saw it last night. I thought it was pretty good. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) was the best character in that movie I thought.

When I was young, my mother warned me to use words like "awesome" sparingly (to avoid overusage...triteness?); with respect to this particular word she told me to reserve it only for God. I have honored her wish until tonight. I saw The Avengers.

I have to admit, seeing all the prequels was a good idea, though I still have as of yet to see Hulk (2003), which I have heard it is better not to have seen it than to have.

I also wore my Captain America shirt. I got a couple comments like "wow, you fill out that shirt well, Captain America." "Hey look, it's Captain America." and "You look good in that shirt." Thanks. Compliments like those made my day perhaps as much as the movie did. They inform me that, perhaps, I may have some worth, if only in physicality, in something. :coolbeans:

I finally saw this too, tonight. (Went by myself)

Thought it was totally awesome. Pleasantly surprised by Mark Ruffalo's Banner, and all the bits that included Hulk were great. I love how scared to shit everyone was by the potential danger, including Scarlett's character. Her fear was tangible. The feel of the film was a touch darker than most Marvel stuff, and I liked that. Darker may not be right word, but 'serious' then, though it was sprinkled with humor here and there. I really liked Hawkeye too. Must have been so hard working out a balance between screentime of all the characters, but they seemed to do it really well, including some of the infighting/bickering.

Of course they did it well. In Joss we trust ;)

Now the whole world can know what we've known since 1997! :P

My friend dragged me into it. Very action-y action movies almost always bore me to death, but this one didn't! It may have to do with the fact that it has actual characters in it. Pretty nice overall. At the risk of jinxing it, I must confess I'm really looking forward to the sequel.

Some nitpicking though:

SPOILER WARNING WARNING

wasn't bad. was a bit stupid in parts. supposedly superior alien army? "oh no! they have arrows!" pwned by a single warhead.
obligatory "strong" female character hitting like she's three times her weight.

I loved her interrogation/manipulation stuff, I wish they had developed that more. I was quite disappointed when she was put to fight next to Captain America in the last part; her scenes were cool, but you could have put any of the other heroes in her place and they would have done a thousand times better (save perhaps for Hawkeye). She should at least have been sent on a stealth mission, it would have been less anticlimactic for her character.

Fonduman wrote:
loki must be exceptionally weak. captain america doesn't even have superpowers except for being as strong as a normal human can be, and he was doing alright versus him. so much for gods and all that.

heroes inexplicably fighting each other. I get the idea of loki trying to incite tension and play on their differences, but you'd need to be retarded to really start arguing about stuff like that.

I first thought it was Loki's scepter that was magically influencing them (a form of hate plague). After all, the scepter had already proven to be both a weapon and a transmitter, so it was easy to assume it could be whatever plot device the writer needed it to be. Sadly, that would have invalidated the whole "learning to work as a team" theme.

Also, what was Coulson's big gun supposed to do, besides hurting Loki just a bit? Was it maybe just an attempt to make Coulson's death seem even more pointless than it already was?

Fonduman wrote:
when the hullk first appeared it was like re-living left 4 dead all over again. when the flying snake things appeared it was like terraria all over again

And Black Widow using the aliens' own weapons against them was so Halo. (not that it contradicts my point above) Seriously, if you're an advanced alien race, why would you make weapons that are super effective against yourself, and then send them out to be used in an invasion, knowing that at least some of them are inevitably going to fall into enemy hands.

I thought the movie was great. The only thing that I didn't like was that Loki was very weak. He did not even use his shape-shifting ability. Chaos is his element!
I'm excited for the sequel. I was really surprised at all the enthusiasm of the audience I was with. They all clapped and whistled at the beginning. I'm hoping that this will pave the way for a Justice League movie...maybe. :P
