I came to The Salvation Army (church) to find peace within myself through my Savior...Jesus Christ. I did not "come back" to faith to meet a woman, get a gf, or to get married. They would be nice benefits, mind you, but finding solace was my reason for church.

There are many nice women at the Salvation Army I attend. Honestly. Some attractive too. Yup. I have asked out one woman in my just over two years in attending, and you know what....she said "no" and to her credit, it was polite and we still "talk" at our Holiness Meetings. She didn't go psycho on me.

It's the same as everywhere else........be a bad-boy, be hot, have a bankroll of money, be arrogant......

In Chruch, and In Christ........I don't need to have a wife to 'have' salvation, an eternal life, or to follow Christ.

I'm a big fan of the Sallie army (as they are affectionately known here, don't know if they are elsewhere). They do heaps of good work.

Blood and fire :D

thanx Zeek. I am 'enrolled' in Soldier Classes at the "Army" so in about five months I'll be a unifrom wearin' Salvationist!

Part of the reason "why" I joined was because of the massive ammount of humanistic work they do in the name if Christ. One of my biggest complaints against many Christians over my time was that I didn't see any doing what "Christ" did.

Then I discovered the Salavtion Army.....

You must be in Oz if you are referring to the SA as "Sallies"

I am a US Citizen, my mother was Welsh (RIP 1946-2008) and she was from Cardiff, and I going to visit my cousins and relatives there in early 2013!

heard enough "sheep" jokes about the Welsh and the comical nature of them in general. I am spending a whopping TWO months in the UK!

I plan to:

-See the changin' of the guard and all that at Buckingham Palace
-Make the PILGRIMAGE to Westminster, and SEE ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS!!!!!!!!
-Make the pilgrimage to Liverpool and SEE where The Beatles all grew up
-Record shop
-Volunteer at a Salvation Army in deep east-end London for a few days
-Record shop
-Thrift for hip-threads
-Record shop
-Thrift for hip-threads
-did I say record shop???????
-Visit Cennobite and SEE Manchester. Want to see the where the "Happy Mondays" blew up, and of course where the "Spencer Davis Group" started out
-and yes, just spend a few days all day at a random cafe...reading, people watching

All that sounds amazing! Especially the Beatles pilgrimage. I love the Beatles. I hope you enjoy Liverpool, there's some great Beatles-related stuff there, and the people are very friendly and down-to-earth.

If you are into your retro threads, check out Pop Boutique and Affleck's Palace in Manchester. And if you like records, Vinyl Exchange. You won't regret it. Actually, head over to the Northern Quarter (where these places are) full stop. Chock full of record shops, shops with old things, shops with weird things, shops with thrifty things...

Hope you enjoy Wales and England, gmartinfan. It's been over a decade since I was in either country, but I really enjoyed my time there (lived in Oxfordshire for six years). Except for my high school experience there, of course. Hated English schools. So much bullying.

The UK is a great place, though. I'd love to go visit again.

I've been going to a church recently, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything for my social life. Only one person is friendly to me, and he's older and married with kids.

As for getting a gf, I joined the singles Sunday school class. Surprise surprise there's only one girl in it. She is cute, but very shy (or maybe introverted..hard to tell the difference). I don't even know what to say to her.

I agree. Lots of wealthy hypocrites attend regular "Christian" church functions, and then go out and do as they please.

I always donate to the SA when I need to give something away to a charitable cause I know will use it for good.
