I went and saw it in the cinema last saturday. I liked it quite a lot. I'll refrain from saying too much about the movie itself for those who still want to go and see it except for saying that it's very spectacular and muscular (and with some good music) though with a rather standard story line: fun, mindless entertainment that shouldn't be taken seriously (dudes, analysing every detail will take out the fun of watching a 70 year battleship blasting aliens to smithereens; this is aimed at you review people in the media out there), not so much blockbuster material (though the movie seems to be doing well at the box office).

I'm always into alien invasion movies (especially when you can kill them with guns and bombs). I'll probably wait until its released on DVD or netflix or somthing, but I'll most likely watch it. I don't know much about it except the trailers make it seem like a mix between Battle Los Angeles and Transformers.

Haven't seen it yet. Just like to say I'm a box office fanatic.

More like a mix between Pearl Harbor and Transformers :P.

I was considering either this or The Avengers. My dad tends to be my movie date, so I go the PG-13 action movie route to avoid any uncomfortable moments

I went to see it on it's day of release. I love cinema and there's no genre I like more than Science Fiction, so I was guaranteed to like Battleship so long as it wasn't a terrible film (which it's not). I would definitely recommend Avengers Assemble as a better choice though, it's fantastic.

I've played Battleship before. Never remember any aliens in it. Seriously, if they want to turn a game into a film, they could do so much better. Whether it's a good film or not, I really don't want to watch it purely because I would be unable to escape from this idiotic premise.

Yeah. As much as I like aliens, I sure don't remember any aliens in the Battleship tabletop boardgame.

I am pretty sure that a film based very accurately on the details of the original game would have been fucking shit.

True. But it is still a movie based on a freaking board game.

We've had movies based on theme park rides, novels, short stories, other movies, videogames, comic books, television shows. But this is just too far! The line must be drawn here! (Capt. Picard voice) THIS FAR, NO FURTHER! (Capt. Picard voice)

Actually I doubt this is the first ever film based on a board game, there's probably another out there somewhere.
