Signs like that are so retarded in their attempt to provide "humor". Long guns are the worst weapon you can have against a bear, since most encounters that could be deadly occur up close and it's a simple matter to get it knocked out of your hand. Studies have been done on this, guns don't really do jack shit to help you against a bear. Unless maybe you are Clint Eastwood; a well trained marksman who can keep cool under pressure. In which case you probably want something like his .44 magnum, provided you can deal with the recoil. Pepper spray is far from perfect (better hope the wind is in your favor) but it's probably the least likely to screw up. Of course the best bet is to just know what the fuck you are doing and avoid startling the bears altogether. You know, with the silly bells and what not.

as for the video, it looks staged (like they did something off camera to provoke the bears) and looks to be shot with a very long lens; meaning that the bear looks a lot closer than it is. Really it looks like typical redneck asshattery.

For not going into the woods, well you just have to be aware when you are in Grizzly territory and take precaution (be careful of Yellowstone, where there have been a few maulings in the past couple years);

Being mauled by a bear is the way I want to go out. With a bang.

Have to disagree here.

Yes, bird-shot (as in peppering) would not be very effective unless it blinded the bear, since it would likely not penetrate the fur, but buckshot or a shotgun slug would be highly effective. A high-caliber rifle would be best, with a strong handgun caliber in second place. Bear attacks are very rare, but I always go armed into the woods with both knife and firearm.

The woods are _MUCH_ safer then the streets of many cities, where the worlds most dangerous predators dwell; Humans.
