I'm against it because retributive justice does not outweigh the risk of putting an wrongfully convicted person to death. Also, there is no evidence that the Death Penalty lowers murder rates.

As long as there is no question that the person is guilty, I am for justice. If not then no.

I’ve mentioned this somewhere on the forum before, but I support the death penalty in theory, but in practice I oppose it. It’s pretty obvious that some people on this planet need killin’, but there isn’t an organization or entity that I would entrust with this privilege (besides myself, who wants to decide who lives and who dies). I always found it odd that the same people whom rail against the government as inept and incompetent in everything it does are the same people that strongly support the death penalty.

A penalty that takes, on average, twelve years to carry out will not be a deterrent....that is quite obvious. However, there is reason to believe that a death penalty administered more swiftly would lower the murder rate.

So yes, I do support the death penalty, but I would reserve it for extreme cases such as serial killers, cop-killers, murder of a child, killings over money, etc.




Ah...good ole leftist fallacies to debunk. The state does not make the decisions about life and death....a jury of citizens does. Just because one supports the death penalty does not mean they would always chose to administer it if they were on a jury.

There are too many overzealous prosecutors that are willing to artfully engineer the evidence in order to get a desired conviction. If you’ve followed the Innocence Project, you’ll know that in the vast majority of those cases, the evidence was circumstantial at best, and yet the prosecutors chose to carry forward seeking the harshest penalties possible in an effort to appear tough on crime. It’s not really about the truth, but what makes their professional résumé more impressive to the general public. This has very little to do with a jury of citizens, as they are only allowed to take into account the evidence presented in the case.

As a sheer matter of morality, no court should ever be allowed to disallow ANY evidence that could establish a defendant’s innocence... they should only be able to (and in fact required to) disallow evidence against them that was gathered illegally or falsified. Sadly, in practice corrupt judges very often do the exact opposite.

They CHOSE the profession that they are in, just like I do when I drive a truck for a living. I know that my chances of a horrible death behind the wheel are very high, but I still CHOOSE to do it regardless of the fact that I am many more times likely to die while working then your average police officer is.

The very same rational goes for cops, who for the most part just love to bully people around and do it "legally".

I would rather see killers guilty of murdering persons die a quick death, rather then put them in "Super-Max" prisons for life.
I consider keeping any human being under those horrible conditions to be cruel and unusual punishment under US law.

These abominations should be done away with forever, while gallows are built for the truly guilty mass-murderers and killers who need to be put down for good, hopefully in under a years time from the sentence of death, handed down by the courts.
