I was always tempted to enter the female bathrooms and steal all the thongs while they took a shower, but I was too afraid of what would happen if I got caught.

How are we supposed to judge vice presidents and failed vice presidential candidates? Seriously?

This. The Vice President of the United States is one of the most irrelevant offices on the Planet, with the obvious exception of Dick Cheney, who pretty much was the de facto President from 2000-2008... and also the less obvious at the time example of the vice presidency of George H.W. Bush, who was responsible for the vast majority of the shady operations that happened under dementia-suffering President Reagan's watch.

Failed VP candidates are utterly irrelevant... the best you can say about them is they were less than effective celebrity endorsements that kept endorsing throughout the failed campaigns.

If we're talking about the successful candidates, they certainly are. The foreign policy this country has been running since WWII has been nothing short of murder on a global scale.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Covert_Uni ... ge_actions
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_o ... .80.931949

Of course, hardcore neocons and neolibs are going to argue that point and that all (or at least some) of the sovereign nations the US has attacked or interfered in the internal affairs of since then were justified... justified even to the point of excusing all of the civilian deaths and so-called "collateral damage."

Even if that case could be successfully argued, I'd still say most of the Presidents on the list are manslaughterers for failing to pardon innocents on death row before their execution. To paraphrase Harry Truman, the buck stops there.

First. Nixon got CAUGHT. He didn't do ANYTHING anymore ILLEGAL than Johnson, Kennedy, and Eisenhower.....Nixon got caught.

With the Watergate break-ins what SHOULD'VE happened was this:

Nixon should've apologized for the situation. Fired a few people on the White House staff who did know INSTEAD of trying to cover it up. The country would've forgotten about it really quickly. Remember he just walked off the 1972 election with a SOLID landslide. Not a 7-point lead (Clinton in 1996 for example). Nixon had a full-on MANDATE by a LARGE majority of the population. The American public would've forgiven, and moved on. Even with the Afirican-American vote....he had almost 30% of their vote in 1972 (a HUGE accomplishment for a REPUBLICAN) see if that has happened since 1972 for a Republican....

Why Nixon is my fav post-war president

-the last real man president. Nixon flew into red China in 1972 on Air-Force-One secretly with no press fanfare. With NO military escort. With an attitude of GOODWILL, and at the same time the USA is napalming Hanoi to the south. Balls.
His arrival signaled goodwill, but it also sent a very strong message to the Red Chinese...............unescorted leader of the free world is landing here, and IF we do try something (assinated, blow up his jet) the whole West is gonna come knock on our door with some serious weaponary.....

-Guess who signed Earth Day into action?????

-Who setup food stamps / ebt as we know it today in the USA? Not Johnson. Not Obama, not Clinton. Nixon did.

-Who believed in a "safety net" for the American people, but NOT a crutch for generations or your whole life??????

-Who setup the EPA and at the same time got the funding and bill for that pipeline in Alaska to be built????

-Who reminded the American people more of themselves? Nixon came from a poor lemon farm. His wife was born in a coal mining shack. The Nixon's were self-made. No inheireted wealth. Rare, even then for Republican politicians of that time.

-His daughters adored him. The kids still liked and loved him while he was alive, and in death. He could not have been as evil a tyrant as the media made him out to be. The kids would've said differently by now with their words, their lifestyles or actions.

-Who ended Vietnam????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? A war escalated and started by a "peace-loving liberal" (Lyndon Johnson)

These are just some of the reasons. There is A LOT not to like about ol' Nixon....but history WILL be kinder to him as more time moves on.

Nixon could get LEGESLATION moved. Today no one can get a piece of paper to be budged without the endless swipes, snides an attacks today. For as gruff as Dick Nixon was, he got the paper to move in Washington.

Being president doesn't mean being popular. Take that Bill Clinton. Take that Ronald Reagan. Take that President Obama.

I could go on...but in a world and sea of Nixon haters..."I'll tell you this" I'll drop it for now.

I agree there's a lot to like about Nixon, but he was left-of-center on domestic economic issues. Even Obama wouldn't do some of the things Nixon did, such as the wage-price controls. He also has the dubious honor of being president when spending on social programs exceeded spending on defense for the first time. The number of regulations more than doubled on his watch.

Goldwater is indeed the best "should've been"....anything to avoid LBJ's Great Society that has bankrupted this country while leaving it with the same poverty rate.

And yes, despite not being perfect (as some would have us believe), Reagan is indeed the best postwar president.

Every single US president has been worse than the one before him. Therefore, at any given point in our history we always have the worst president ever.
