What book are you reading right now?

Finished Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Nearly Everything" few days ago.

http://www.amazon.com/Short-History-Nea ... 0767908171

Currently reading two books:

Richard Dawkins "The Greatest Show on Earth"

David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson "Film Art: An Introduction"

"There has been no genetic change since we were hunter-gatherers, but deep in the mind of modern man is a simple hunter-gatherer rule: strive to acquire power and use it to lure women who will bear heirs; strive to acquire wealth and use it to buy affairs with other men’s wives who will bear bastards . . . Wealth and power are means to women; women are means to genetic eternity.

Likewise, deep in the mind of modern woman is the same hunter-gatherer calculator, too recently evolved to have changed much: strive to acquire a provider husband who will invest food and care in your children; strive to find a lover who can give those children first-class genes. Only if she is very lucky will they both be the same man . . . Men are to be exploited as providers of parental care, wealth and genes." - Matt Ridley "The Red Queen"

"Humor won’t save you; it doesn’t really do anything at all. You can look at life ironically for years, maybe decades; there are people who seem to go through most of their lives seeing the funny side, but in the end, life always breaks your heart. Doesn’t matter how brave you are, how reserved, or how much you’ve developed a sense of humor, you still end up with your heart broken. That’s when you stop laughing. In the end there’s just the cold, the silence and the loneliness. In the end, there’s only death." - Houellebecq

Matthew Stokoe "Empty Mile"

After that I'll probably order Jim Crawford's "Confessions of an Antinatalist", and some of the Houellebecq stuff mentioned in the other thread.

Secrets of the A Game by Logan Edwards. Yeah, it's PUA stuff but I love reading about shit I have no aptitude for. Glutton for punishment I guess.

Also, Expert Card Technique by Hugard & Braue.

The winners bible -rewrite your brain for permanent change- by kerry spackman.
Truth be told there's noting new in it that you don't already know, yet by working though it I have found it to be helpful in becoming a more positive and productive person.

How risky is it really -why our fears don't always match the facts- by david ropeik.
I got this book last week in the hope that somehow, in a round about way it might help me with my LS problem.

Mostly political/history books and not even mainstream ones really...if you look at the Wall St. Journal's daily book review, those are the type of books I read.

Thanks you reminded me, I am also reading

'Feel the fear and do it anyway' - Susan Jeffers http://www.amazon.com/Feel-Fear-Anyway-Susan-Jeffers/dp/0449902927

I'd love to know what you think of 'How risky is it really - why our fears don't always match the facts, when you are done.

Stephen Hawking "A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes"

Tough but fascinating reading.

PSYCHLONE by Greg Bear
INVOLUTION OCEAN by Bruce Sterling
MAJESTIC by Whitley Strieber
SEA HORSE IN THE SKY by Edmund Cooper

I commend them to you all guys. I may not be able to get laid BUT I know good science fiction. Book number 2 on the list is a thing of such incredible beauty, it will take your breath away. Think 'Moby Dick mixed with 'Dune'.

I'm re-reading Harry Potter again. I'm also reading the History of Middle Earth. Incredibly boring for anyone who isn't a huge Tolkien nut, but fascinating reading for fans.

Unfortunately, I've got so many books and half of them are unread. I just don't get as much time as I want to.

True. I'm a sparatic reader I don't read books from front to back. I read a book which I feel at the moment and may say read a chapter out of one and a paragraph out of another.

That said, I'm into Edgar Cayce right now....
