I just RSVPed for an atheist meetup next Saturday. Karaoke at noon (???) and lunch afterward. Five men and one woman so far. I like those odds!

It could be 20 men to one women...being in social situations is great for meeting people! It expands you social web and in those webs maybe be more people you can meet...and more women.

What is the typical age-range for meetup.com groups? I'm 21 (22 in July), and worried that most of the members in any prospective group will be 30+. While I don't have a problem with that insofar as the actual meetings are concerned, the main reason I'm considering joining these groups is to meet people around my age and obviously a substantially older group would not be conducive to that aim.

The two main groups that I'm considering at the moment are an atheist group and a hiking group. Any pertinent information on these specific types of groups or meetup groups in general would be much appreciated.

I've been to a few meetups and it is RARELY more than a handful of people that show up (meaning, 5 or less - including me). Asides from my personal experience, I have also looked at the sites of various meetups to see how many people show up at each event, and the results are still usually the same -- 5 people or less is all that tend to show up.

Of course, this doesn't mean every meetup event will have 5 or less people show up, but that is what generally happens. It really is disappointing.

Isn't that a good thing? More people would mean a higher probability of being left alone.

Yes, I suppose it can be looked at in that way. It's just that it can be awkward if only one other person shows up and it ends up being just the two of you there.

Also, I think it depends on the event. I think some specific meetup events are more enjoyable if there are more than 5 people that show up, and some events are better off if 5 or less show up.
