I wasn't referring just to tv. There's been print articles in the UK, but none in the U.S. (that I know of...)

I rarely watch tv in any case. There are a few intelligent U.S. shows, but yeah not many.

Sounds like the US and Australia are about on par there, then. The shows they make here are shockingly dreadful for the most part.

UK tv is usually a bit more cultured :D But then, I'm half English on my mother's side :)

That said, I would give this reporter a chance. Even a potentially misrepresented view is good publicity for us.

I still dont think raising awareness of LS will help any of us. Women will still want strong men, not love-shy men.

It's a parody sketch called "the boy with an arse for a face" by "Mitchell and Webb".

Hmmm Adam82, you and I share a link. My mother was Welsh and from the UK. She came to the USA in the early 1960's to get away from her alcoholic, loserdom family and relatives. She tried Canada for about a year and didn't like it. She was visiting a distant cousin in the "slate belt" of New York State where a ton of Welsh settled from the 1860's- 1920's.....met my dad at a gas station and the rest was history!

I do like some aspects of the Brit press where they will cut you to ribbons in an editorial without resorting to name calling. That kills me! I love it!

Maybe I'm just jealous of the accent. There is good journalism in the states, and television as well. It just doesn't get noticed. PBS is overall a good network, they've had their "floaters" as well over the years. In reference to this thread....I checked out the page, and the credentials of the reporter.....I really wasn't impressed. I like how different topics are actually tackled on BBC; but I don't see how this program is going to be "groundbreaking" or "earthshaking"

Give me re-runs of "Doctor Who" with Tom Baker. Give me the David Frost show!

:-)

Why is it always UK media (as opposed to US media) interested in us?

dont want to sound elitist, but uk tv is just a little bit more intelligent (mostly) than what i see from the US. if it doesnt have explosions and monster trucks, metaphorically, the US doesnt care. exceptions are occasional things like House. I've noticed even adaptations of shows from here need to be superficially enhanced to hold a shorter attention span. like cookery shows, that iron chef america thing is ridiculous
then compare something like DIY SOS or changing rooms with extreme makeover. the transition from UK to US tends to be that shows get louder, larger scale, have a bunch of extra features and side-stories stuck in, lose their subtlety, and have either some competitional plot or cheesy feel-good messages thrown in every 2 minutes.

This is why I hate American TV and can't stand it. I might start watching (what I can) of British TV.

Okay, so far, I'm the only person who has come forward for this doc. I met up with a couple of people the other day and they're keen to have me on the programme, but they would like the views of other guys. In particular guys who are worse off than me.

I have mentioned that due to the condition it could be difficult for any severely affected loveshy to come forward, but they really would like people who are still in a rut so please if anyone else would feel like they could do this, contact her. Emailing her is not a contract and you can back out at any time.

Hey guys, still around (just :?)!

Doc sent me a text message about this yesterday, and as is usual between the two of us if one signs up the other will do it. So I have sent an e-mail (or rather am about to).

When Andrea (she was from Mentorn, so the show was probably C4 bound) called before, for those who don't know, Doc and I talked on the phone with her for quite a while; in my case, she called when I was in a seminar so I had to leave for a whole hour! I became her main contact on here, but she just disappeared (she left the company IIRC).

Anyway, I guess the Activist - yea, hi - is in.

For the newer guys who don't know me, a very brief introduction; I'm from Southend in the UK studying in Bath to be a teacher. And I'm an Aspie. That's about all I have to say.

By the way, I always told myself that, of all the "terrestrial" channels (including affiliates, which means anything under BBC/ITV/C4/Five), BBC3 would always be the one I avoid. For something like this though, I'm sure I can make an exception. Having said that though, consider this: BBC1 is where the frontline political comment goes. BBC2 is where the good stuff goes. BBC3 is where the lesser (and more controversial) political - and otherwise, such as this - comment goes. And BBC4 is where the little that is left goes.

P.S.: I saw that Mitchell & Webb thing months ago. Truly hilarious!

OK; an update. I will be speaking to the team at 15:00 BST, i.e. in three hours' time...

OK; just a little update. I met the director on Friday and he advised me that they will be talking in person to ~30 individuals, 6 or 7 of whom, are likely to be filmed for real, but that they want different experiences for each. From what I can gather, only Doc and myself have this angle so far, so does that make it more likely...?

I'm dreading this thing coming out in February, especially any of the 14th/18th/28th/29th [potential nightmare scenario concerning the 28th; aired on my brother's birthday, and knowing that the day after is the traditional girls asking for marriage day!]...

DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE FILMED FOR THIS.

If you want to cover the aspergers angle then do so by means of an interview but on no account should you damage or ruin your potential career by appearing in this.

Please do not allow J to talk you into doing this - no good will come of it.

Why would you want to be on the documentary in the first place? The mind boggles...
