I do play Quake, and recently found that you can play on the internet, so have registered for that :D

Although all my games are PC, as I've never had a games console.

A girl into video games? Awesome. I'm in love. Will you marry me? :P

There are some around :P

One of my main hobbies! I'm not that good but I still play my way. Even when I first got a computer I was playing Duke, Wolfenstein, and any other first person shooter games.

I'm more into strategy games. I liked command and conquer generals. I also like Stronghold Crusader (as old as it is) and the Age of Empires/Age of Mythology games.

Out of AOE & AOM, I play mythology more. I tried a few of the similar games like AOE but to me they never matched it. I've been known to lose whole days due to playing it. You just get stuck for hours at a time.

Have you also played Age of Mythology: the Titans? I found that one particularly awesome. Those titans were the size of an entire village :P. They were easier to kill than you'd think though if your conventional army was big enough.

Yeah, I bought the box set that included both. I love making my titan kill the other ones. Plus I prefer the single player games building the army/ village from scratch, rather than the story bits.

Franchises is a pretty limited question, so I'll mix games and franchises:

Ultima 7: Black Gate/Serpent Isle
Secret of Mana
Chrono Trigger/Cross
Planescape : Torment
Baldur's Gate
Super Mario World/3
Day of the Tentacle
Sam and Max : Hit the Road
Zelda: Majora's Mask and prior
Terranigma
Illusion of Gaia
Diablo 2
Doom
Persona 3 and 4
Dragon Quest 3/4/5/6/8
Cave Story
Castlevania: Symphony of Night/Aria of Sorrow/4
Metroid Prime 1 and 2 (still intending to play Super Metroid)
F Zero
Vagrant Story
Terraria
Megaman classic and X
Final Fantasy 1 and 4-8
Warcraft 2
Earthbound
Phantasy Star 4
Fallout

I guess the games that usually leave the strongest impact on me are adventure/RPG, but I've enjoyed games in nearly every genre. I find heavy strategy and war sims the hardest to get into and find many modern FPS to be bland. The video shown earlier in the thread about what happened post Doom is a great example.

I'm also biased against games that I'm forced to play with a mouse these days, as I have a mild carpal tunnel syndrome from clicking a mouse too much (largely from making hobby game) so I use a pen/tablet for my computer navigation whenever possible, and a controller when not.

True. Every time I have to hear about that fat plumber I end up getting a fit that would make a tourette's sufferer blush.

Brand recognition and childhood nostalgia, I'd guess. Always been partial to the Blue One myself.

Go finish Super Mario Bros. 3 and then come back. Best one in my opinion.

Games that I love, in no particular order:
Super Metroid
Final Fantasy VII
Mega Man 2
Oh, man. I was soo into Dance Dance Revolution when it was big.
Portal/Portal 2 were spectacular.
Star Control II
Street Fighter II
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I thought that was waaay better than Ocarina. I don't get why that gets all the love. Never bothered with Majora's Mask.

Probably missing some. I don't game nearly as much anymore, although I do have a Wii and a PlayStation 3.

Edit: Resident Evil 2. I had an audience when I beat it. :D
