I can go quite a while without the Internet, and I have before. That being said, generally the first thing I do in the morning is check out MSN.com (to see if anyone famous died), and the last thing I do before I go to bed is check out MSN.com (to see if anyone famous is dying). I could easily go without this luxury though.

In any event, the Internet is nothing more than a tool, and like any tool, it’s useful for the purposes it serves. It’s kind of hard to imagine not having instant access to bank and financial accounts – the idea of waiting a month until they sent you a piece of paper with your information sounds absurd. Also, I don’t understand how anyone learned anything back in the day. If you wanted to know if your favorite band was touring, or what movies were green lighted (Anchorman 2!!!), you’d be screwed. It’s easy to see how rumours about Paul being dead got started; because no one knew anything, and had no way to refute it.

There was radio and TV, though catching the news you wanted to hear meant you had to be listening/watching at the right time. A bigger problem was fashion... how the hell were you supposed to know what the other kids were wearing if you weren't connected via word of mouth? Hence being a social outcast became a self perpetuating downward spiral.

A lot of this is how I feel. What did people do when they were watching something and TV and thought, "I know that actor from somewhere" There wasn't always IMDB. Or if you were having a disagreement with someone about a fact and couldn't look it up online. Were these just mysteries that went unsolved, never knowing who was right? I'm partially kidding because I do remember life without the internet, but it's amazing how quickly we can adapt to technology.

I go without sometimes and it's actually kind of nice. But going without it permanently would require large changes in my life. Online banking was mentioned here. I do most of my shopping online, so that would be difficult to give up. Also just having access to so much information. I'm in college right now so I use it a lot for academic purposes, but I'd miss all the information even if I wasn't a student.

In the end I could probably adapt, but it would definitely take a period of adjustment.

Only if you paid me. I tried going with out for a 3 months, a semester, because it was expensive that round of the season. For some reason, though many worse things have happened since, I still call that the most depressing time of my life. I feel completely cut off from the world without internet.

No, I'm on it every day. As I have wifi, it's the first thing I do after waking up. I have an internet enabled phone, so even when I am on holiday, I use my phone for the internet.

It's become too integrated with the modern lifestyle, so that I can't give it up without also giving up something else.
