...because I'm confident enough in my heterosexuality not to give in to the gay scare every time I make a positive comment about another man's physical appearance. Some men have aesthetically pleasant features and other men can observe this without feeling the spontaneous urge to buttfuck them.

Some people are clearly sporting a bit of a crush on the local weatherman. No homo.

Never really understood the "no homo" thing.

Ok, you don't understand me (sorry my English sucks).

What I mean is, I know what "no homo" means, but I don't need to justify the fact that I think a guy is handsome.

This sums up what I want to say :

(even if I don't think it sounds homophobic, it just sounds ridiculous to me)

I understand your lack of affinity for the phrase.

I thought you were interested in its origin. It is in no way "typical of Americans". It's an Internet meme, with a longer provenance than most. It sounds just as stupid to most Americans as it does to you. That's part of the humor that makes it a meme.

Lots of pop culture sayings originate in the ghetto (i.e. black people), are initially mocked and then adopted (self-mockingly) by the majority (i.e. white people). Eventually everyone forgets the origin, and the irony is lost. The Internet is a meme factory that speeds up this process, but otherwise doesn't fundamentally alter it.

I don't see what's wrong with saying it.

I say it, and I'm a gay rights activist. I just want people to know I'm not homosexual. My gay friends don't mind it, either.

If someone has a problem with that, they are too politically correct.

every time I hear it used it's just to be funny. If you actually have to use it like the guy in orgasmo who always says "I dont wanna sound like a queer or nothin, but... unicorns are awesome." Then using it was counter productive.

In fact I've never met a guy who could just give or take a compliment from/to another guy without joking about it. It's just normal.

Typical of Europeans to find one dumb thing that some Americans do, and consider it typical for all of us.

It was just a supposition.
I guess being on the defensive is also typical of all americans  (joke)
