Is it just me, or is someone collapsing and dying almost every week now? Guess it depends on where you get your news.

The latest woman who died during a marathon has a news page praising her so much you'd think she was jesus
Do a couple of nice things, die, and suddenly you're the greatest person to have ever lived.

It's all so hypocritical. The fuss about that footballer is unbelievable. What recognition do these people deserve over anyone else who dies like that/almost dies?
It's like a big show for everyone to show how caring they are. They'll often show so much remorse over someone's death... but select only a few people to show remorse over. You should either show a little remorse for everyone as a matter of principle, or none. This large-scale pantomine is sickening. Especially with the feminists getting in and parading around the modest exploits of any woman that dies like she's the pinnacle of humanity.

They choose the oddest people to selectively pay attention to, too. I can't think of a much more worthless job than an athlete. Train your whole life to do what? Run in circles? very productive. Running for the sake of running. Decent hobby? Sure. Good use for copious amounts of tax-money? not so much.
Football entertains people, I guess. But I wish they wouldn't laud athletes as heroes. "See how he kicked that ball really well? He's an inspiration to all of humanity!" :banghead:

And I wonder when people are going to realise that intense exercise isn't good for you. As a matter of common sense, i've always known that a little is good for keeping things going, body maintenance, etc, but that too much must lead to strain and wear and tear. That intuition was essentially proved when recent research found intense exercise training caused a majority of people's hearts to obtain scarring from being pushed so hard, and scarring can mess up the electrical rhythym sometimes.

I think if people had to feel sympathy or sadness every time something awful happens in the world, or someone dies, we'd all go around as nervous wrecks (because these such things happen every day). I agree that it's like we're expected to feel more sympathy for some people than others. I don't see why sportspeople are lauded so much, either, and never have. Sure, it keeps the masses entertained, but why does a guy who essentially kicks a ball really well deserve so much money and adulation?

It is a terrible thing when someone dies, don't get me wrong, but it is a fact of life. I think I am too sensitive for this world sometimes. Too sensitive to deal with all the crap that goes on.

I think maybe people operate very differently to me, too. I can't get overly upset hearing about things happening to people thousands of miles away. I don't know them, they're an abstract notion. However, I can get pretty upset easily hearing about animal abuse going on. So maybe somehow I just care a lot more about animals?

it's still hypocritical to focus on one person and ignore everyone else, like they are a far less deserving person.

I haven’t really noticed an increase is cardiac arrests. It seems that about once a month we hear about some marathoner or sports participate collapsing as a result of physical exertion.

The bigger annoyance, to me, is when someone dies prematurely, and they’re eulogized is a positive light without exception. Whenever some teenager gets offed doing something stupid, or some young person crashes into a telephone pole, they’re always “such a great person,” who is always inevitably an “irreplaceable loss” to the community. I’m sure in some cases these things are true, but I’ve been around the block enough to know that the majority of people are douches. The law of averages dictates that at least some of these people were jackasses, whom we are better off without, yet we’re lied to about how society will never be the same without them.

I’ve told my friends and family that, in the event I’m killed off prematurely in a public manner wherein it receives television news coverage, I want them to be completely honest. Something along the lines of “We’ll kind of miss him, but he was also an asshole, so we won’t miss him all that much. We’re probably better off.” I also hope I’m in the casket face down so all you muthaphukkaz can kiss my black ass now.

When a celebrity dies, and I'm a fan of that celebrity, it always makes me sad. Case in point: Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Amy Winehouse. All drug overdoses, and the saddest part is how wasteful their lives were.

But when it's someone I don't care much about, it's like, "who cares?"

I can sympathize with people that worship Football, and then lose one of their heroes.

Not only did this cause me to burst into laughter in the middle of a library but I also yelled "You're black?!" out loud in pure shock.

sudden cardiac arrest freaks me out. it could happen to anyone, any time. it's like walking around with a gun aimed at your head constantly.

The deaths of well-known people is one of many ways to keep slaves distracted from the reality of their bondage.

That is true. Most people go to the polls to vote for A or B. Problem is that neither is a good candidate.

TV and news about unimportant events keep the masses in bread and circuses.

Politics is MANDATORY in a democratic republic, which we no longer seem to have.

You are forgetting that many entertainers have people that enjoy their works.

If Stephen King met the Grim Reaper tomorrow, I'd be fucking sad. Because that would mean no more books. I was sad enough when Michael Crichton died from cancer a few years ago.

Michael Jackson has some really great music. I wish I had heard more, but he isn't here to make it. Musicians get paid to make music, actors get paid to make movies, etc, and when one of them dies (and it's a good or even great one), it's pretty sad. Doesn't matter whether it's a heart attack or not, it still is a fucking shame.

those are people who were good at doing something that you directly benefited from. maybe people enjoy watching people run in circles, and notice when all the other athletes are half a second slower, I dunno.
