You are forgetting that many entertainers have people that enjoy their works.

If Stephen King met the Grim Reaper tomorrow, I'd be fucking sad. Because that would mean no more books. I was sad enough when Michael Crichton died from cancer a few years ago.

Michael Jackson has some really great music. I wish I had heard more, but he isn't here to make it. Musicians get paid to make music, actors get paid to make movies, etc, and when one of them dies (and it's a good or even great one), it's pretty sad. Doesn't matter whether it's a heart attack or not, it still is a fucking shame.

those are people who were good at doing something that you directly benefited from. maybe people enjoy watching people run in circles, and notice when all the other athletes are half a second slower, I dunno.

Sports can be fun. I love Basketball.

I find Football useless, but Basketball and Hockey are my sports. I'm also a fairly decent Basketball player, one time I was going to a Basketball camp, and almost tried out for the high school Basketball team (maybe if I did, I would have gotten pussy?)

I dunno, it seems kind of hypocritical to state that someone who writes about vampires and monsters that aren't real, is somehow okay, but someone who plays a game and shoots hoops or throws a football through a post is somehow useless? I think your resentment is more stemmed from being bullied by said people, rather than the talent of said celebrities.

Being bullied by them, and also because they get all the hot chicks. Don't forget that part.

Wow. That sounds like the plot from a movie!

That is true. Most people go to the polls to vote for A or B. Problem is that neither is a good candidate.

TV and news about unimportant events keep the masses in bread and circuses.

Politics is MANDATORY in a democratic republic, which we no longer seem to have.

I appreciate your qualifier that we (Americans) live in a country whose government is (spposed to be) a DEMOCRATIC-REPUBLIC. People always think that the US is a Democracy. Never has been, is certainly not now and never will be.

But its sad that people are more likely to vote for a TV show contestant rather than a political figure... (Not that we're given much of a choice anyways).

Like Geoge Carlin Said; "In America your only real choices are what color car you can have, what flavor ice cream you want, what channel you want to watch. But when it comes to somthing that actually matters, we're given the choice of either side of the same coin.
